The Charlie Sanders Scholarship Foundation began in August, 2007 when the Rochester Hills/Rochester Area held "Charlie Sanders Appreciation Day" at the Rochester Community House. Proceeds from the event were used to start the scholarship fund.

The Foundation is one of the ways Charlie has chosen to give back to the community. Scholarships have already been given to students from high schools in the Rochester area, and the Foundation has now expanded to Monroe County, Michigan and North Carolina, Charlie's home state.
